The album stems partly from a childhood memory of hearing her bluegrass musician father play his banjo, a sound she described as "you can hear it, but you can't really hear it". She has noted that while she comes from a background in electronic music, the album is meant to feel like "songs to the flickering hope in your heart" incorporating guitars, bass, and "reverb-soaked atmospheres". She follows a personal mantra written on her keyboard: "When you do something, something happens." For tracks like "Days Incomplete," she emphasizes the importance of navigating uncertainty and finding magic in imagination rather than needing to have all the answers.
